General: Configuring a print server

NOTE: Be sure to disable windows firewall before searching for the print server.  Sometimes you may need to be logged in as an admin when you cannot scan for print server.

Using Silex ExtendNet Software

1. Insert CD that came with print server (or we can transfer over the software).

2. Add power supply & Ethernet cable to the print server, and hook it up to the printer.

3. Click on install software.

4. Select Install ExtendView.  The InstallShield wizard should open.

5. Start the ExtendView utility by clicking on Start>Programs>SilexTechnology>ExtendView>ExtendView.

6. At the welcome screen click on next, name your view "Silex print servers", select "Automatically create a view with default settings", and click finish.

7. Right-click on the print server in the list (by default is should be set to 192.0.0.192)- enter your IP address (if your system auto-assigned an address, make sure it is a good address and make sure DHCP is NOT enabled on the print server).

8. Once the software rescans for the device, right-click on the one with the IP address you just entered.  Go to the Configuration Wizard and a setup wizard will appear.  At the welcome screen, click "Next", and on the internet protocols screen check "TCI/IP" and click "Next".  Configure the subnet mask and gateway and check "Use a permanent IP address".

9. On the EtherTalk tab- go to Name (under settings) and give the print server a name for easy identification in the future (for example- use the location or the cfp number).

10. Using a paperclip or ball-point pen- depress the "Reset" button for 1-2 seconds (this only works on a laser printer)- a printout should print- verify all setting and keep for reference (this also lists the MAC/EN number and serial number if ever needed).
